Online Career Services Expands Unique Needs Resource Center

May 4, 2010

The Online Department of Career Services is currently sponsoring Cynthia Patterson, a graduate intern from the University of Wisconsin‐Milwaukee (UWM) School of Education. During her time at Online, Cynthia is gaining a wealth of experience and has taken on the responsibility of building a resource center for students with unique needs which may create obstacles for employment.

Working with Online Career Services Specialist and Unique Needs Liaison Holly Franson, Cynthia is developing the center to inform students of the support Career Services provides to students with unique needs. The focus of the project is to provide a wealth of resources for students to overcome the employment barriers they may encounter. The services provided assist students to find resources to successfully obtain employment, to properly disclose the need for accommodation, to provide support for students needing transportation or interview clothing and to listen to concerns and answer questions.

The Unique Needs Resource Center is located on the Online Community Pages within Blackboard to provide easy access for any students presented with barriers. The Resource Center contains a PowerPoint presentation for easy viewing as well as links to nation‐wide resources for Online students across the country.
