Choiceortunity #41 – The World

February 16, 2010

The world.  We all pretty much depend on it being there in the morning when we wake up and often forget to thank it before we go to sleep.  The World is a pretty amazing place.  So many people, faces, races, thoughts, personalities, religions, dynamics, cultures, stories, successes, struggles, tragedies and amazing feats of courage surround us each and every day; it is a beautiful place the World.

Yesterday one of the staff asked me what we (Herzing Online) had done over the last year in the form of charitable work for our community.  I really had to think because I don’t necessarily keep track or a list anywhere.  After creating the list I was pretty amazed, even with the little things we sometimes do for somewhat selfish reasons, like having a bake sale for a charitable cause.  Yeah it is nice to give money to a cause but having a readily supply of cookies or ice cream sundaes at the office is AWESOME.  Outside of the cookie benefit it is a way we can give back to our community and people in need while doing our normal routine; it is a very good thing.

Last month the home office donated $10,000 to Haiti to aid in the recovery from the earthquakes that have ravaged the region.  Reading the email from Renee Herzing in regards to the donation made me tear up.  What a gift it is to work for an employer who genuinely cares about others and who encourages their employees to be the best citizens they can be.  This just doesn’t go for our employees, we hope that through our actions and example we are setting the bar for our students and alumni as well and we know that there are many of you out there doing great things in your community.  We want you to share what you are doing with us and so does your potential employer!

You can do so by joining the Herzing University Social Responsibility Circle and sharing how you are changing the world for the better with your peers and our staff.  Tell us about your adventures in your own community and network with other “Herzing World Changers”.  Look at some of the great personal and professional benefits:

  • Networking with others in your hometown to find opportunities to advance in your career
  • Add volunteer experience to your resume
  • Share your professional skills to gain experience
  • Great for your professional portfolio
  • Gain leadership skills
  • Set an example for your children and family
  • Break away from your daily routine and have some fun!

As part of the benefits of being a member of the Herzing Social Responsibility Circle when you graduate you will get a “Social Responsibility Transcript” listing all of the volunteer work you performed while in school.  This is a great addition to your portfolio and job search after graduation.

Are you in?

Help us make an impact on our communities through volunteer work and green initiatives, join the Herzing Social Responsibility Circle on Facebook at!/group.php?gid=61043561308 to share, change and rejoice in all the World has to offer us.  It will be fun, I promise!
