Career Services receives Dr. Robert Greenberg Award

December 16, 2009

On November 8th and 9th, Career Services Director Amy Chastek and Internship Specialist and Unique Needs Liaison Holly Franson traveled to the tenth annual Career Opportunities for Students with Disabilities (COSD) conference in Dallas, Texas. The two participated in a variety of workshops, including a student-led panel on disability disclosure, sessions detailing both career services and employer best practices, and a think-tank group brainstorming information on ways the organization can better serve its members.

On the second day of the conference, Chastek and Franson accepted the Dr. Robert Greenberg Award for Innovation on behalf of the Herzing University Online Career Services Department. The award is awarded to “professionals […] who have demonstrated innovation in the preparation of college students with disabilities or in the recruitment of these students for employment.”  The Career Services Department received the award in recognition of its commitment to create resources accessible to and specifically designed for students with barriers to employment.  Among these resources are online tools such as virtual classrooms, Vault Career Library, Perfect Interview software, and a “Unique Needs Resource Center.” Career Services was also recognized for the creation of a full-time Unique Needs Liaison position and the department’s overall emphasis on experiential learning opportunities.

Herzing University Online shared the spotlight with Wal-Mart, who received the Dr. Robert Greenberg Award for its commitment to hiring and making reasonable accommodations for employees with disabilities.
